Balance, Coordination & Strength

This is a 4 week series: 9/16, 23, 30 & 10/7 held on Thursdays at 6:00pm

In this 4 week series you will learn how to strengthen progressively. With strength training the body is always in a state of adaptation. To continuously improve, over time we need to progressively add load and resistance to the muscles. Our focus is functional strength to improve balance, coordination and strength! Functional strength training attempts to mimic the specific physiological demands of real-life activities by exercising several muscles and joints together, resulting in greater ease in performing daily activities, thereby positively affecting your everyday life.

For this series you will need: a resistant band, a variety of hand weights and/or kettle bells - some light, some heavier. You can also use things around your home like cans, water bottles, gallon jugs filled with water or sand etc.

This is a 4 week series: 9/16, 23, 30 & 10/7 held on Thursdays at 6:00pm

Asana Exploration Workshops - for teachers and interested students

Asana Exploration Workshops

THESE WORKSHOPS ARE TAKING PLACE IN PERSON AT THE YOGA HOUSE IN KINGSTON

Learn more about your favorite (or not-so-favorite) asana (poses) commonly taught in class!

These workshops are designed for both:

  • Students wanting to learn more about the many poses used frequently in classes.

  • Yoga Teachers wanting to brush up on alignment, learn new ways to approach commonly taught (yet often mis/under cued) asana, and adapt poses for a wider range of student bodies.

In each workshop, we will dive into several key poses – Downward Facing Dog, Warrior 1 & 2, Triangle, Camel, Upward Bow, Revolved Side Angle and many more! – discussing alignment, adaptations, ways to create greater accessibility, and remove misconceptions about each pose – while having time to settle into conversations and address questions you may have!

A bonus hour is offered to Yoga Teachers to help further refresh your understanding and cuing of these poses, remove outdated jargon, and address the biomechanics of cuing/moving into and out of each pose.

YA registered teachers will earn Continuing Education Credits!

Sign up for one or both workshops! (Different poses will be taught each session!)

Meditation Your Way

Susannah, and Cathy from The Sister’s Are In, are collaborating again! This time to bring you this accessible meditation workshop! Meditation Your Way
This includes a free check-in and guided meditation on October 1 at 7pm

What to expect:
More than a class, this is an open interactional, conversational space to help you find what works best for you and your personal meditation/spiritual practice.

Using a variety of techniques such as - Open Awareness, Self-Guiding, Mudras that support the chakras, and Restorative Poses, Cathy and Susannah will help you deepen your practice (or help you create a new one).

Who is Santosha?
Cathy and Susannah come from very different practicing backgrounds, and that’s why it works so well! They have very different strengths and approaches.

Three years ago they discovered a common appreciation for sound healing, and jokingly decided they needed a “band name,” and Santosha (contentment) was born.

What is the focus?
The focus for this event is STRESS MANAGEMENT and SELF REGULATION. Creating a calm space within you as a touchstone. Reacting with our action, moderating your emotions.

This includes a Free check-in and guided meditation on October 1 at 7pm

Find Your Feet

No more tiptoeing around your foot issues! Learn easy self-care exercises to build strength, mobility and balance from the ground up.

Your feet are important to your whole body health! As much as we rely on our feet to get us where we’re going each and every day, many of us know very little about how our feet are supposed to work and how their function affects the rest of our body, or how the function of our hips can affect our feet.

Proper function of the feet is vital for optimal movement quality, biomechanics, and muscle function. Improving foot function will improve your posture as well as your mobility and balance.

Poor foot mechanics can lead to issues that are manifested throughout the body, including chronic pain and injuries.

Join the Find Your Feet Workshop to get a better understanding of your feet and learn easy self-care remedies and exercises to build balance & strength from the ground up so that you can put your best foot forward :)

In this workshop you will need a therapy or tennis ball, blanket or towel and yoga blocks or hardcover books

Coping In Tough Times

Join Susannah for a conversation with Red Cross-certified disaster mental health first responder and trauma-sensitive yoga instructor Monique A. Dauphin, LMHC. Moniques will share her knowledge about stress management in the midst of crisis, and help us find ways to tap into our inner resilience to move from surviving to thriving in the wake of VOVID-19.

We will discuss:

  • An understanding of stress and anxiety—the differences between the two and ways to manage both

  • Practical self-regulation skills to soothe worry, feelings of panic, & overwhelm

  • Ways in which pandemic and other disasters mess with our ability to make meaning of the world (and what to do about it)

  • How to create and maintain work-life boundaries while working from home

  • How to adapt our self-care plans to less-than-optimal conditions

  • How to decrease feelings of isolation and foster community during self-quarantine

Questions for Monique are welcome and encouraged! She is a wealth of information about trauma, anxiety, and mental health in general. Ask questions during the event or submit them in advance to sgrange@hudsonriveryoga.com
